PROGRAM CHANGES JANUARY 1, 2010

The following vehicles which are registered and kept in the counties of Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Washington, or Waukesha, must meet emission inspection requirements. 

• Model year 1996 and newer gasoline- and alternate fuel- powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 8500 pounds,
• NEW:  Model year 2007 and newer vehicles up to 14,000 lbs, gross vehicle weight rating,
• NEW:  Model year 2007 and newer diesel vehicles

Vehicles that are at least five model years old require a test within 45 days of purchase.  Additionally, vehicles that are at least three model years old require at test every other year prior to license plate renewal.  See Testing Requirements for more details.

PROGRAM CHANGES OCTOBER 1, 2009

Test Stations are closed for the following holidays:
Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday Afternoon, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas, New Year Eve Day, New Years Day

TEST STATION CLOSURES:

The Burlington, Cedarburg and Waukesha South inspection stations have closed due to low volume. Alternate test stations for these stations are indicated below.

Titling Service Now Available At All Emission Test Stations

Titling Services are now available at all vehicle emission test stations. Plates or stickers are given to the customer upon completing the transaction. Titles are printed and mailed from Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Madison.

Title transactions processed:  

• Issue and transfer car (AUT) and small truck (LTK) license plates
• Transfer the following plate types:
  • Civilian group (CVG), including firefighter, rescue squad member and emergency medical technician
  • Motorcycle (CYC)
  • Collector (CLS)
  • Disabled parking (DIS)
  • Donate Life Wisconsin (LIF)
  • Ducks Unlimited (DUK)
  • Endangered resources (END)
  • Firefighter (FRF)
  • 12,000 pound farm truck (FRM)
  • Gold Star (GST)
  • University of Wisconsin higher education group (HEG)
  • University of Wisconsin - Madison campus (HEM)
  • Celebrate children (KID)
  • Multi-group (MGP), including freemason and Lao veteran
  • Military group (MLG)
  • Green Bay Packer (PAK)
  • Sesquicentennial (SES)
  • Wisconsin Salutes Veterans (SPT)
  • Wisconsin National Guard (WNG)
  • Veteran (VET)
• Renewal transactions for all of the above plate types, plus mopeds (MPD)

There is a service fee of  $19.50 for a title transaction.
